Matthew 7.13-23
Heaven and Hell Series
Sermon Notes:
Some things that Jesus taught:
- Jesus understood it as a real place.
- Jesus described it as a place of torment, destruction, agony, weeping and gnashing of teeth (Matt 5.22; 7.13,14; 8.12; 13.42; 25.30; 25.46).
- Jesus knew it as a place of judgement and eternal punishment prepared for the devil and his angels (Matt 5.29, 30; 25.41).
- Jesus said that most people choose hell as their destiny, and he wept over those people (Matt 7.13).
- Jesus said that there is no forgiveness there (Matt 12.32).
- Jesus taught that hell stood in opposition to Him and that he would prevail (Matt 16.18).
- Jesus taught that hell would stand in oppostion to the church (Matt 16.18).
- I believe Jesus experiences hell forus (Matt 27.46; Eph 4.9).
Response
- God's love and compassion stand as an invitation to eternal life and joy (John 3.16).
- Belief/faith opens the door to eternal life and joy (John 10.10; 14.6; Rom 6.23).
- Faith in Christ is the only way to eternal life (Acts 16.31; Rom 10.9, 10).
Do we belive this? What difference does it make?
