A Hunger and Thirst for the Word

“like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation” (1 Peter 2.2).

1. Live like a baby with respect to your hunger and need for the word.

2. Nothing ever satisfies like the pure milk of the word.

3. Nothing will help you grow up into salvation like the pure milk of the word.

Application

1. Jesus lived that way (Matthew 4.4)

But He answered and said, "It is written, "MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.'"

2. The psalmist exhorts us to live that way (Psalm 42.1).

As the deer pants for the water brooks,
So my soul pants for You, O God.

3. Job lived that way (Job 23.12).

I have not departed from the command of His lips;
I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.

4. Disciples of Christ live that way (John 6.68; 8.31).

Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.

So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine;
