Sermon Notes

Worry and anxiety arise when we hold on to the things of this world at the expense of storing up treasures in heaven.

If we understand and embrace the truth, there is no need to worry.

1. Do not worry about your life - as to the food and clothing you need for life, or the length of your life (25-32). Anxiety grows out of having the wrong master.
    - Worries about food - think about the birds - your Father feeds them. Think about your worth compared to them (26).
    - Worries about your height or the length of your life - think about it. Can you change them (27)?
    - Worries about your clothing
        i. Think about the lilies - He makes them grow without their worrying (28).
        ii. Think about Solomon's man-made glory (29).
iii. Think about the grass that God clothes even though it is short lived (30a).

2. Think about your faith - do you believe what you say you believe? Are you any different from the world around you (30b - 32).
     - Stir up your faith!
     - Don't be like the Gentiles

3. Seek first your Father's kingdom and your Father's righteousness (33).
    - Spread the truth of the reign of Jesus (light).
    - Spread the impact of His life and values (salt).

4. Use your common sense - you cannot control tomorrow, so don't worry about it (34).
    - Tomorrow will care for itself
    - Tomorrow has enough trouble of its own

Do we seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness first, above all else, and in all else?
