Paul & Sharon Townsend
Paul and Sharon Townsend completed the translation of the New Testament into the Cotzal Ixil language in 2001. Due to the sudden death of a fellow Bible translator in July of 2006, they were assigned the task of completing the New Testament for the Chajul Ixil, a group of about 35,000 people, also in the mountains of Guatemala, Central America.
With Ixil speaking translators, Paul is incorporating new exegetical information and continuing the polishing of manuscripts up to consultant-check level. As of November, 2011, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, I & II Peter, I, II & III John, and Revelations are in the process of review by consultants. Paul supports some Bible teaching in Chajul and in his day-to-day work with the translators, they are increasing in their understanding of the Bible and related materials, which they can pass on to their village churches and schools.
Praise God for hundreds of Chajul believers waiting for God’s Word in their heart-language to improve their understanding of His Ways. Pray for God’s grace, strength, wisdom and protection on each one working to complete the task.
