Our Story

In the winter of 1988, a group of Christian believers began discussing and praying about their shared desire to start a new church. These men and women were committed to faithful, personal involvement in ministry, uncompromising biblical teaching, and true spiritual worship, so the new church would have to reflect these commitments.

The group began meeting as a church in April 1989 and developed a spiritual base of operations for numerous small groups and ministries-all started and sustained by lay people. In the fall of 1989, the new church moved to a temporary facility near Spring Valley and Inwood. DBC's first mission statement was "to exalt the Lord Jesus Christ, to edify believers, and to evangelize the lost."

In August 1990, after prayerful consideration, DBC's first Board of Elders was constituted to govern the church according to the biblical model. The elders re-affirmed the original mission statement and established a framework for action among the body, adding a number of lay-driven ministries. For ten years, the church grew.
