Inescapable, Critical, and Careful Choices with Incredible or Catastrophic Implications

Pastor Hal
Matthew 7.13-23
Sermon on the Mount

Sermon Notes

1. Be alert and take action as to which gate you enter - enter the narrow gate (13,14)

The Narrow Gate   The Broad Gate
The gate is small The gate is wide
The way is narrow The way is broad
It leads to life It leads to destruction
Few find it Many enter through it

This action is the choice of discipleship.

"There are according to Jesus, only two ways, hard and easy (there is no middle way), entered by two gates, broad and narrow (there is no other gate), trodden by two crowds, large and small (there is no neutral group), ending in two destinations, destruction and life (there is no third alternative)." John Stott, Christian Counter Culture.

2. Be aware of false prophets - you will know them by their fruits (15-20).

Wolves dressed like sheep
Good trees and good fruit
Bad trees and bad fruit

3. Only those (disciples) who enter the narrow gate, who travel the narrow way, who produce good fruit, and who do the will of the Father will enter the kingdom of heaven (21-23).

It is not what you say - it is how you live, following Jesus every day in discipleship.
